Huntress vs Blackpoint vs SentinelOne for MSPs (and is Defender enough?)

Huntress, Blackpoint Cyber and SentinelOne all end up on the same MSP shortlist, but they sell different things. Huntress sells a managed EDR with its own SOC and a published list price. Blackpoint sells a SOC-led MDR service that can sit on top of the EDR you already run. SentinelOne sells an EDR and XDR platform you operate yourself, with managed detection as an add-on. Most of the decision comes down to who watches the alerts at 3 a.m., what you commit to up front, and how much of Microsoft Defender you already pay for. Prices and terms below come from each vendor's own website, checked on 21 October 2026.
Key facts, October 2026
- Huntress publishes an MSRP of $8.99 per endpoint per month for Managed EDR, with 24/7 SOC included. MSP contracts have a 50-host minimum and a 12-month term.
- Blackpoint doesn't publish pricing. Its MDR Essentials plan is sold month to month.
- SentinelOne lists Singularity Complete at $179.99 and Commercial at $229.99 per endpoint per year, for 5 to 100 workstations. Managed detection and response is an add-on.
- Microsoft Defender for Business costs $3.00 per user per month on its own and is included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium.

Huntress Managed EDR
Huntress prices by endpoint, identity, learner and data source, and shows list prices on its own pricing page: Managed EDR at an MSRP of $8.99 per endpoint per month, with an example rate of $7.99 at 100 endpoints. The 24/7 SOC is included, and there are no separate setup or onboarding fees. Other modules are priced the same way: Managed ITDR at $4.80 per identity, Managed SIEM at $4.00 per source and Managed Security Awareness Training at $2.08 per learner, all MSRP per month.
For MSPs the commercial terms sit in Huntress's support articles. You sign one contract that covers all your managed customers. Each contract has a minimum of 50 hosts and a 12-month commitment, billing is monthly in arrears on actual usage, and volume discounts are based on the total committed agents across all customers. Partner pricing has a qualifying rule: at least 40% of your revenue, or your MSP business unit's revenue, must come from IT and security services. Enrolling as a partner costs nothing, and the trial is 14 days.
On the product side, Huntress manages Microsoft Defender Antivirus at no extra cost and runs native agents on Windows, macOS and Linux. It lists PSA integrations with HaloPSA, ConnectWise Manage, Autotask, Syncro, Kaseya BMS and AlgaPSA, and RMM integrations with NinjaOne, N-able, Datto RMM, ConnectWise Automate, Kaseya VSA and Syncro. It also offers an API, webhooks and an MCP server.
Best fit for: MSPs that want a managed SOC on top of Defender, with a list price they can quote from today. Check first: whether you'll reach 50 hosts across your customer base, because that is the contract floor.
Blackpoint Cyber MDR
Blackpoint MDR is a service first: a 24/7 SOC that Blackpoint describes as "human-led, AI-accelerated", running on its CompassOne platform. Blackpoint doesn't publish prices, so you'll need a quote. Its entry plan, MDR Essentials, is sold month to month and covers endpoints plus Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and Cisco Duo, with managed Defender AV and Defender for Endpoint.
The integration pages show how Blackpoint is meant to sit next to an EDR you already own. Its Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and SentinelOne integrations use a polling API, Blackpoint lists about three minutes to set each one up, and alerts that its SOC resolves are closed in your Defender or SentinelOne console automatically. For Defender it also offers multi-tenant agent configuration with shared policies. On the PSA side it syncs SOC tickets and comments with Autotask, and syncs usage with ConnectWise Manage for billing, including overage billing and many-to-one product mappings. Blackpoint also collects logs from firewalls and SaaS tools, from Sophos and Palo Alto firewalls to Cloudflare, Zscaler and LastPass.
The partner programme is tiered and includes a partner portal and early access to new releases. Blackpoint offers a free trial. In June 2023 it announced a $190 million growth investment from Bain Capital Tech Opportunities and Accel.
Best fit for: MSPs that already run Defender or SentinelOne and want a SOC to watch and respond across endpoints and Microsoft 365 identities without replacing the agent. Check first: the price per endpoint and per user, since nothing is published, and what MDR Essentials leaves out compared with the full service.
SentinelOne Singularity
SentinelOne is the platform option. Its pricing page lists Singularity Complete at $179.99 per endpoint per year, with 14 days of data retention, and Singularity Commercial at $229.99, which adds identity detection and response, 90-day retention and managed threat hunting. Singularity Enterprise is quote-only. Those prices apply to 5 to 100 workstations, are in US dollars, and are only a guide: all purchases go through an authorised partner, which sets the final price. Multi-tenant management and role-based access control are in every plan. Managed detection and response is listed as an add-on.
For MSPs, SentinelOne's PartnerOne programme has a Manage track for MSPs, MSSPs and MDR providers, with two licensing models. Its partner guide, dated October 2023, sets internal-use licences at a minimum one-year renewable subscription and a minimum order of 50 agents. It also says Sell and Manage partners must show proof of creditworthiness before onboarding, and that North American partners can buy directly from SentinelOne.
Best fit for: MSPs with their own security team who want to run the EDR console, keep 90 days of telemetry and add managed services only where they need them. Check first: the full annual cost per endpoint once MDR is added, and the onboarding and credit requirements for the Manage track.
Where Microsoft Defender fits
Defender for Business is $3.00 per user per month, paid yearly, for up to 300 users with up to five devices each. It covers Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, includes EDR with automatic attack disruption, and keeps 30 days of advanced hunting and six months of data. Server protection needs extra licences. Microsoft 365 Business Premium already includes it, and MSPs can view incidents and alerts across customers in Microsoft 365 Lighthouse.
Microsoft's product pages describe software and tooling. They don't describe a staffed 24/7 SOC included in that price, and that's the gap Huntress and Blackpoint sell into. Both list Defender as something they manage. Huntress manages Defender Antivirus at no extra cost, and Blackpoint's MDR Essentials manages Defender AV and Defender for Endpoint. If most of your clients are on Business Premium, compare those services with Defender in place before you pay for a second agent.
What to check before switching
- Contract floor and term. Huntress: 50 hosts and 12 months per MSP contract. SentinelOne: 50 agents and a year for internal-use licences. Blackpoint: ask. Line these up against your current renewal date.
- Who responds, and how far they can go. Ask each vendor what its SOC does without calling you: isolate a host, kill a process, lock a Microsoft 365 account. Blackpoint says its SOC isolates devices and terminates processes when a Defender alert isn't contained.
- Defender overlap. Count how many clients already have Defender for Business through Business Premium. A service that manages Defender can save you an agent on those machines.
- PSA and RMM fit. Huntress names six PSAs and six RMMs on its integrations page. Blackpoint lists Autotask ticket sync and ConnectWise Manage usage sync. Check billing sync, not just ticket creation.
- Removal and rollout. You'll be uninstalling one agent and deploying another across every client. Ask for the uninstall method for the old agent and run both in a pilot group first.
- Data retention. SentinelOne Complete keeps 14 days, Commercial 90 days, and Defender for Business six months. Cyber insurers and incident responders may ask how far back you can look.
Frequently asked questions
Does Huntress have a minimum for MSPs?
Yes. Huntress's MSP contract has a minimum of 50 hosts and a 12-month commitment, billed monthly in arrears on actual usage. The 50 hosts are counted across all your customers, not per client, and volume discounts are based on that total.
Does Blackpoint Cyber publish its pricing?
No. Blackpoint's website offers a demo and a free trial but no price list. Its MDR Essentials plan is sold month to month.
How much does SentinelOne cost per endpoint?
SentinelOne's pricing page lists Singularity Complete at $179.99 and Singularity Commercial at $229.99 per endpoint per year, for 5 to 100 workstations. Final pricing is set by the authorised partner you buy through, and managed detection and response is an add-on.
Is Microsoft Defender for Business enough on its own?
It's a full EDR for small businesses at $3.00 per user per month, and it's included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium. What Microsoft's pages don't include is a staffed 24/7 SOC to triage and respond to its alerts. MSPs either do that work themselves or add a managed service such as Huntress or Blackpoint on top.
Can Huntress and Blackpoint run alongside Defender?
Yes. Huntress manages Microsoft Defender Antivirus at no extra cost, and Blackpoint's MDR Essentials manages Defender AV and Defender for Endpoint. Blackpoint also integrates with SentinelOne, so it can work with an existing SentinelOne deployment too.
