Active Backup for Microsoft 365

by Synology

Free Synology NAS add-on that backs up Microsoft 365 OneDrive, SharePoint, Exchange and Teams data with scheduled backups and granular recovery.

How MSPs use it: run it yourself or resell it

About

Active Backup for Microsoft 365 Centralize backups of your Microsoft 365 accounts to your NAS to ensure continuous access if unforeseen events occur.

Overview

Active Backup for Microsoft 365 backs up Microsoft 365 accounts to a Synology NAS. It covers OneDrive for Business files with metadata such as sharing permissions, SharePoint Online site collections, libraries and lists, Exchange Online mailboxes with attachments, contacts and calendars, and Teams files, wikis and OneNote notebooks. It works with Business, Enterprise and Education plans.

The add-on is free on Synology NAS servers and backs up unlimited accounts, limited only by storage. You can schedule backups, keep as many versions as you need, and save space with single instancing and block-level deduplication. Backup data is searchable by keyword and other fields, and you can preview items, including email attachments, before restoring.

It suits MSPs that already deploy Synology NAS devices at client sites and want local Microsoft 365 backups without per-user licenses.

Selling this to clients

MSPs both run this and sell it: you hold the console, the client pays for the seats or the service built on it.
